BOUFFANT

Ordering up 50 year-old vintage patterns off Etsy has become an occupation within an occupation with me!  Just the word Bouffant conjures up an entire decade of late 50s-early 60s chic. It was a time of bell-shaped skirts, fitted bodices and nipped in waistlines--the era of  early 1960s just before Mary Quant's mini skirt took off and ushered in a revolutionary fashion explosion.  The above image was taken three years back by photographer John Truong. He managed to capture the true spirit of 1960 with Lauren wearing this original bouffant dress, part of my vintage collection.  The pictures below have been a real source of inspiration for me.  Designing in the bouffant style has been one of my greatest joys lately and getting that Audrey Hepburn/Jackie Kennedy look right makes it all worthwhile
The two photos above are from a 1963 wedding.  Check out how this dress with the exception of a few details is as near a replica to the dress in the header photo as you can get.
These gems are great examples of bouffant: bell and pencil skirts with tight fitted bodices.  Absolutely stunning.
LOL, Back in the early 1960s this was

fashion for brides in the year 2000! Shown on The Tonight Show-Styled by Edythe Vincent
